Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I setup my mobile device for use with Lypp?
- If you already have an Instant Messaging application or service on your Smart Phone, PDA, BlackBerry or cellphone and have an Instant Messaging ID then you have everything required to use the Lypp mobile service. All you need to do is create an account.
Step 1: Install Instant Messaging Software
If you don't have Instant Messaging on your BlackBerry, simply open your BlackBerry's Internet browser and visit:
- www.blackberry.com/googletalk to get Google Talk, or
- www.blackberry.com/YahooDownload to get Yahoo! Messenger.
Once you've installed Instant Messaging, continue to Step 2. Click here for information on setting up Instant Messaging on other cellphones, Smart Phones and PDAs.
Step 2: Create An Instant Messaging ID
To create an Instant Messaging ID, choose one of the following options (there's no charge for any of these services):
- Go here to get an AOL / AIM screen name.
- Go here to get a Gmail account (for use with Google Talk).
- Go here to get a Windows Live account (for use with MSN / Windows Messenger / Office Communicator).
- Go here to get a Yahoo! account (for use with Yahoo! Messenger).
Step 3: Sign up with Lypp here.
- Why would I pay for Lypp when there are free call services available?
- Lypp provides a high quality, business-class service, priced competitively with other paid services but with a host of features not available elsewhere. Free call services usually require several compromises: call quality and availability, advertising messages and a generally unprofessional image for your employees, colleagues or customers. Plus "free" services still mean you and your participants will be billed for long distance charges by your phone company. By contrast all of Lypp's calls are toll-free so you won't pay anything extra to dial in to a call.
- What are the Instant Messaging commands I can use with Lypp?
- Once you've signed up you'll be able to associate your Instant Messaging ID (AIM, GTalk, MSN or Yahoo!) with your Lypp account and create calls simply by sending commands to the Lypp Buddy via IM. Available commands include:
- Create One-to-One Call:
call 6046297990 OR:
call [name] (e.g. call dan, when 'dan' corresponds to a record in your Lypp phonebook) - Scheduled Calls:
Scheduled calls can be set up via Instant Messaging using natural language in the following syntax: Call [name] or [number] on Monday at 1pm - Change your account name:
new [name] - Change your preferred number:
phone [number] - Change your email:
email [address] - Change your password:
password [new password] - View Lypp phonebook:
contacts - Add a Lypp phonebook item:
contact [name, phone number] - Invite a friend to use Lypp:
invite [email address]
- Create One-to-One Call:
Note that dialing by name requires you to upload your contacts to the Lypp phone book.
You DO NOT need to enter your own phone number when making calls, since this number is captured during the registration process. Once you send the message, Lypp will call your phone first and then the other number(s).
